February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

In addition to February being Heart Health awareness month, it is also Teen Dating Violence awareness month. Yesterday on Twitter, the Love is Not Abuse campaign and Seventeen Magazine held an online conversation about dating abuse.

Teen dating violence can be one incident or a series of events that take place over time. From teendvmonth.org, here are ten of the most common abusive behaviors in relationships:

  • Checking your cell phone or email without permission
  • Constantly putting you down
  • Extreme jealousy or insecurity
  • Explosive temper
  • Isolating you from family or friends
  • Making false accusations
  • Mood swings
  • Physically hurting you in any way
  • Possessiveness
  • Telling you what to do
